Our 7 day wildebeest & gorillas will take you to some of the most famous and popular national parks in east African region with two most popular activities in the region. These activities are wildebeest migration in Tanzania northern circuit and mountain gorilla trekking at volcanoes national park of Rwanda in Virunga region.
The safari will start from Tanzania northern circuit where you will spend 4 days visiting different parks for wildlife and bird viewing before flying to Kigali national park of Rwanda to visit the gentle giants of east Africa in Virunga massif range. Before gorilla trekking, in Rwanda, you will start with Kigali city tour where you will visit different places including the genocide sites.
Trip Overview
First day: Arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport, transfer to your lodge
Second day: transfer to Ngorongoro for the full day game drive
Third day: a game drive at Ndutu conservation area, proceed to Serengeti
Fourth day: encounter the wildebeest migration, return to KIA for a flight to Kigali
Fifth day: Kigali city tour, transfer to volcanoes national park
Sixth day: gorilla trekking at volcanoes
Seventh day: return to Kigali international airport for your flight
Detailed itinerary
First day: Arrival at Kilimanjaro international airport, transfer to your lodge
You will arrive at Kilimanjaro international airport (KIA) where you will be welcomed by your guide who will take you through your itinerary be being transferred to your lodge at Arusha city for relaxation, shaking off your jetlag. You will have a dinner at the lodge and then sleep over. The drive from KIA to arusha city is about 50 kilometres which is a one-hour drive
Second day: transfer to Ngorongoro for the full day game drive
After your breakfast early in the morning, you will embark on your journey to Ngorongoro conservation area. Along the way you will enjoy the scenic view of east African rift valley that is found in that region. On arrival at the park headquarter, your guide will proceed to pay the park entrance fees and start your game drive.
During the game drive you are likely to encounter the famous wildebeest, zebras and the big five. On this adventure, you will also visit the crater lake found within the Ngorongoro conservation area. At the lake, you will encounter a lot of animals as they congregate to take water from the lake. You will have your dinner and spend your night at tented campsite in Ngorongoro.
Third day: a game drive at Ndutu conservation area, proceed to Serengeti
conservation area is a must do especially if your visit is between end of December and end of April when the wildebeest settle in the area. You will be able to meet a lot of herbivores and cats. On top of that, this is a calving period so you will be able to encounter a lot of newborns and you are like to witness predator-prey interactions. You will spend your night in tented campsite in Serengeti national park
Fourth day: encounter the wildebeest migration, return to KIA for a flight to Kigali
Another home to the wildebeest migration in Tanzania is Serengeti, arriving there at the right time will give you a chance to witness to witness wildebeest while crossing the Grumet river as they are heading to masai mara national parkin Kenya. This experience will give you a chance to witness the survival instincts of the nature.
The game drive at Serengeti will be a half day activity and you will drive back Kilimanjaro international airport to catch your flight to Kigali. On arrival to Kigali international airport, you will be welcomed by your Rwandese guide who will take you through the activities to do in Rwanda and transfer you to your lodge in kigali.
Fifth day: Kigali city tour, transfer to volcanoes national park
After the breakfast, we shall do Kigali city tour where you will visit places like amohoro stadium, the official Rwanda national stadium, go to the Rwanda genocide memorial centre to witness the tragic that happened in 1994 where over a million people died in Rwanda. You will continue to the downtown market tour of Kimironko market to witness how Rwandese goes about their businesses.
After the tour return to your lodge for your lunch and then checkout of the lodge for the transfer to volcanoes national park for the night stay
Sixth day: gorilla trekking at volcanoes
Gorilla trekking start very early in the morning, therefore ensure to have your breakfast by 5:00 am in the morning. After the breakfast, you will transfer to park headquarter for briefing and gorilla family allocation, you will start you journey to a lifetime encounter of the great apes in their natural habitats in the mountains of Virunga. It will take between 1 to 3 hours to encounter mountain gorillas and you will be given an hour to spend with the great primate and then return to your lodge for sleep over
Seventh day: return to Kigali international airport for your flight
This is the final day of our seven-day safari. After your morning breakfast, you will transfer back to Kigali international airport for your flight back home
