Day 1: Arrival-Pick Up
On arrival at Entebbe Airport you will be picked by our company representative who will transfer you to Kajansi Airstrip for the charter flight to Kisoro Airstrip. You will have lunch on arrival and later go for a community walk to visit the Batwa communities. Dinner and overnight at Travelers rest Kisoro
Day 2: Batwa Trail Adventure
After breakfast you will go for the The Batwa Trail that runs across the lower slopes of the Muhavura and Gahinga Volcanoes in Mgahinga Gorilla Safari Park. The forest is home to a variety of wildlife but the Batwa Trail is far from being a conventional nature walk. With the help of Batwa guides, you will see the forest as a larder, pharmacy, builder’s yard, tool kit and above all, a home. Along the Trail, you will fire a bow and arrow, check hives for wild honey, help repair a Batwa shelter, harvest plants for medicine and food, light a fire without matches, listen to legends and learn about Batwa traditions.
The highlight of the trail is a descent into the Garama cave, a 200m long lava tube beneath Mt. Gahinga. The Batwa are famed for their music and dance and their historic, subterranean council chamber in Garama cave provides the setting for an unforgettable performance. Later return to your accommodation unit for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Visit Lake Mutanda-Transfer to Bwindi Nkuringo
After breakfast we depart for the southern shore of Lake Mutanda where you start at Sheba’s Campsite (90 minutes walking). Alternatively the first day can commence from Sheba’s campsite having spent the previous night there should there be time upon your arrival in Kisoro the day before to complete the transfer to the site. It is possible to undertake this transfer from town by special hire taxi. Accommodation at Sheba’s campsite is low budget traveller level aimed at campers with their own tents and equipment. There is a single double bed cabin currently available at the site and 3 furnished tents on a raised platform.
The journey by traditional dugout canoe and walk from Sheba’s campsite to Silverback Gorilla Resort and it takes about 8 hours. Traditional dugout canoes will be waiting for us to embark for the Mutanda section of the journey from the pontoon at Sheba’s campsite to Rwajenge landing site. The travel time to the landing site on the northern shore of Lake Mutanda is 3 hours.
There are many islands in the lake given over primarily to banana cultivation but one island is under the administration of the National Forestry Authority where it still maintains it’s primary forest cover and Vervet monkeys reside.
The journey to Nkuringo can be broken by spending a night at the wonderfully located Nkuringo Safari Lodge set in a glade of papyrus and eucalyptus forest on Lake Mutanda’s northern shore. This traditional tented safari lodge offers accommodation in an unparalleled setting. You will have opportunity to enjoy the spectacle of a sunrise and sunset with the volcanoes of Muhavura, Gahinga and Sabinyo standing like sentinels along the southern horizon. You will sleep in Nkuringo and do gorilla trekking on day 5 in this Nkuringo section. Dinner and overnight at wagtail cottages
Day 4: Gorilla Trekking-Bwindi Forest
After breakfast with packed lunch and drive you to UWA park headquarters for briefing. After briefing you will go for trekking which takes about 1 to 8 hours. You will have one hour only with the gorillas. During the trekking you may spot birds like the Short-tailed Warbler, Rusty-faced woodland Warbler, Bar-tailed Trogon, Gruer’s Rush Warbler, among others animals like the black fronted duikers, South African porcupines, golden monkey, giant forest hog, bushbuck, buffalo, bush pigs, buffaloes, elephants, jackals, Black and white colobus monkey, chimpanzee. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay
Day 5: Transfer-kisoro Air Strip -Kajjansi Air Strip
After breakfast you will drive to kisoro air strip for your connecting flight to Kajjansi Airstrip. From Kajjansi you will be transferred Cassia lodge for dinner and overnight
Day 6: Departure
Early morning at around 4:00 am you will be transferred to the airport for your departure flight.
