This one-day gorilla trekking experience will take you away from the busy streets of Musanze into the quiet of Kinigi’s Volcanoes National Park, one of the most visited tourist destinations in Rwanda covering an area of about 160 square kilometers and is in the northern part of Rwanda.
Volcanoes National Park is one of the 3 homes of the most sought-after gentle yet endangered mountain gorillas of Africa in the Virunga Conservation Area alongside Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park and the Democratic Republic of Congo’s Virunga National Park. Volcanoes National Park possesses the highest number of mountain gorillas in the Virunga Conservation Area.
Other than the mountain gorillas, Volcanoes National Park is also home to the rare golden monkeys which are the second most sought-after primates in this area and are endemic to the Virunga Conservation Area hence also highly endangered.

Pick up from Musanze and transfer to Volcanoes National Park, Gorilla trekking then transfer to Musanze.
Detailed Itinerary
Arise early morning by 6:00 am and enjoy a tasty breakfast at the lodge and then your driver guide will pick you up at 6:15 am and take you to the park headquarters in Kinigi at 6:45 am for a briefing. Upon arrival at the park headquarters, you will be welcomed by a hot cup of rich Rwandan coffee which will be followed by a short dance entertainment.
After this, a briefing by a ranger guide will begin and during this you will learn about the code of conduct and what to expect on this gorilla trekking experience. As you are in for the briefing, your driver guide will submit some of your special requests for consideration for a particular length of gorilla trek basing on your capabilities.
After the briefing, you will be grouped into 8, and each group assigned a gorilla family to visit then your driver guide will pick you and drop you off at the starting point. At this point you can hire a porter to assist with your luggage as well as provide support during the difficult hiking points.
Then in your group of 8 individuals, you will penetrate the forest in search of the gorilla family assigned to you. This will take you between 4 to 6 hours and once you locate the gorilla family you will be allowed one hour of watching them then return to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and embark on a return journey to Musanze just in time for lunch.
