Horse riding is one of the most thrilling activities on can engage in while on an African safari adventure. Kenya has got some few places offering this experience including the renowned Masai Mara national reserve. Horse riding is not allowed within the main Masai Mara national reserve however it can be done in surrounding areas of larger Masai Mara including private conservation and game ranches
The horse-riding experience will bring closer to the wild animals, and you will be escorted by the armed ranger to protect you against any charging animal that you can encounter while on the horse-riding safari experience.
What to expect?
During the horse-riding safari, you will encounter both the migratory and resident wildlife that graces Masai Mara national park and the near by area. Some of the animals you are likely to encounter include both migratory and resident wildebeest, migratory and resident bird species, zebras, lions, elephant among other animals that call Masai Mara and the nearby surrounding their home.
How is horse riding arranged within Masai Mara
There are two sessions for the horse-riding safari, each session is 2 hours session. The morning session which starts at 7:00 am and ends with a bush breakfast out on the plains of the Mara, hopefully surrounded by wildlife!
The afternoon session starts at 3:00 pm and ends with a sundowner out on the plains of the Mara, hopefully surrounded by wildlife!
On both occasions, you will be picked up from your lodge at least one hour before the activity and be transferred where the horse riding is done. Then you will be prepared before jumping onto the back of the horse to enjoy this once in lifetime experience in the wild.
For a better experience, you will need to be with some horse-riding experience before embarking on this experience.
The horse riding rates
You will be charged 200$ per the riding session that last for 2 hours. The price will also cater for the English-speaking guide/ ranger who will move with you throughout the safari to ensure that your safety is never endangered at any one moment during this great adventure.
You will need to book your horse-riding safari in advance. More so during the peak season of the year as the available slot for the horse riding is limited and is available on first come first serve basis. Secondly, always put your horse riding safari on at least the second day of your safari for a great experience.
