6-day wildlife experience in Rwanda: gorillas & big 5

The 6 day gorilla trekking tip will expose you to Rwanda’s magnificent destinations such as Nyungwe national park for primate viewing, Akagera national park for wildlife encounter, volcanoes national park, the home for mountain gorillas then lake Kivu where you will experience the breathtaking sceneries of the nature and wildlife of the country.

Itinerary breakdown

Day 1. Arrival at the airport and pick up

Day 2. Transfer to Akagera national park for wildlife viewing

Day 3. Tour in Nyungwe national park for chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk.

Day 4. Transfer to Lake Kivu via Karongi for island visits and coffee tours.

Day 5. Mountain gorilla experience and gorilla guardian village tour.

Day 6. End of the trip and Departure to the airport.

Detailed itinerary

DAY 1. Arrival at the airport and pick up

On arrival to Kigali, you will be picked from the airport by your experienced English-speaking guide then check in to Sainte Famille Hotel where you will spend  a night  as you prepare for the next day activities to our next destination.

DAY 2. Transfer to Akagera national park for wildlife viewing

After having your breakfast at the hotel, we shall drive to Akagera national park then start with a boat cruise at Ihema lake for water bird viewing plus some water animals. You will also enjoy the scenic view on the lake including the sun set, then   head to Nyungwe National park to retire to Nyungwe forest lodge where you shall have your dinner.

DAY 3. Tour in Nyungwe national park for chimpanzee trekking and canopy walk

We shall have an early morning breakfast at the hotel then head for chimpanzee trekking. After the wonderful time with chimpanzees, you will take your walk on the canopy which is a suspended bridge in the park where you are able to have a luxurious view of the whole park and have an interaction with birds that are resting on the treetops. After that long day, we shall head back to Nyungwe forest lodge for our dinner, take rest as we get ready for the next day.

DAY 4. Transfer to Lake Kivu via Karongi for island visits and coffee tours

Traveling to lake Kivu via karongi, have lunch stop over at Moriah Hill Resort then continue with our journey to gisenyi. will start by visiting the napoleon island then off to nyiramirundi island to do a coffee tour where you are shown all the processes from the garden to when its ready for consumption. After that, finalize with biking as you enjoy the cool breeze direct from the lake in gisenyi then after wards drive to Gorillas Lake Kivu hotel for our bed and dinner.

DAY 5. Mountain gorilla experience and gorilla guardian village tour

Our next tour will be gorilla trekking at Volcanoes national park. After your breakfast, head to  volcanoes park headquarter at 6am for briefing then the guide takes you for gorilla trekking where after having lunch at one and only gorillas nest then spend the evening hours at gorilla guardian village called Ibyiwacu where you delve into the culture of Rwandans then after go back to Gorillas volcanoes hotel for your dinner as you wait to depart the next day to the airport.

DAY 6. End of the trip and Departure to the airport

After having breakfast, you will take a 2-hour drive from the hotel to Kigali city to catch our flight at the airport.
