Being the highest Mountain in Kenya and second highest in Africa after the prominent majestic Mountain kilimanjaro.The highest peaks of the Mountain are; Batian at 5,199 metres (17,057 ft), Nelion at 5,188 metres (17,021 ft) and Point Lenana at 4,985 metres (16,355 ft). The Mountain is the source of the Republic of Kenya and is located in the former Eastern Province of Kenya and about 16.5 kilometres (10.3 mi) South of the equator and 150 kilometres (93 mi) North northeast of Nairobi City.

There are 11 candid glaciers which are a main source of water for the people in Kenya. The lower slopes of the Mountain are covered with numerous types of vegetation and these include; giant lobelias, rock hyrax etc. The Mountain is within the Mt. Kenya National park which was officially founded as a National park in 1949 to conserve and protect the region around the Mountain.

Accessibility to the Park

Mountain Kenya National Park can be accessed after driving for a distance of 175 kms from the main city of Nairobi along the Nanyuki-Isiolo road via Sirimon Track or the Nyeri-Nanyuki road near Naro Moru.

It can also be accessed via the Chogoria on the Embu - Meru road requiring you to transfer about 150km North of Nairobi City. Nanyuki Airstrip is the closest airstrip to the National park.

What to Do at Mountain Kenya National Park

Mountain Climbing/ Hiking

This is the most prominent safari activity carried out in the park along the majestic Mountain Kenya. The Mountain requires you to be physically fit taking some days before you get to the top.

You will transfer with an experienced guide, cook to help with preparing meals as well as a private porter. The porters and guides must be registered and authorized by the Kenya Wildlife Services with a Mountain park guide about the National Park. There are various climbing routes that will enable hikers get to the top and these include; the Kamweti Route, Marania Route, Burguret Route, Themwe Route.

Ecotourism & Wildlife Tours

Mt.
