Wildlife Safaris in Kenya-Tsavo East National Park-Kenya Safaris

Tsavo East National Park is suitably located in a Semi Arid area formerly known as Taru Desert and is one of the ancient and largest National Parks in Kenya. The park covers an area of 13,747 kms2 close to the main Town of Voi in the Taita-Taveta County that was once part of the Coast Province. It is divided into two sections i.e the East and West and was named after the prominent Tsavo River that flows West to East traversing the National park bordering Mkomazi Game Reserve and Chyulu Hills National Park in Tanzania. The largest portion of the park comprises of Semi Arid grasslands and Savannah with various wildlife animals including the prominent BIG FIVE animal species i.e lion, black rhino, cape buffalo, elephant and leopard as well as various bird species like the black kite, crowned crane, lovebird and the sacred ibis. The other portion is majorly flat with dry plains traversed by the Galana River as well as the Yatta Plateau and Lugard Falls.

Accessibility to the Park
By Road:

There are three main gates in which travelers can access the park and these vary according to your destination. i.e From Voi, the park can be accessed through the Manyani Gate, From Mombasa, you can access the park through the Bachma Gate and  From Malindi , you can access the park through the Sala Gate.

By Air:

Various Airstrips are available in the park to make it easier for travelers to experience remarkable safari Adventures in Kenya. These allow chartered light planes with the Tsavo and Athi Rivers flowing through and these adjoin forming the Galana River.

Game Drives

The park is also a very good safari destination for all birders around the world with numerous migratory species that flood the park in the months of October and January.  The bird species you will spot here include; ostriches, kestrels, buzzards, Eastern Chanting-Goshawk, Female Eastern Paradise-Whydah, Golden-bellied Starling, Green-winged Pytilia, Helmeted Guineafowl , Lamprotornis superbus , Male Eastern Paradise-Whydah, Red-billed Hornbill ,Sagittarius serpentarius, Village weaver , White-bellied go-away-bird, Yellow-necked Spurfowl, kingfishers, hornbills, secretary birds, herons.
