Wildlife Safari Tours at Uganda's Lake Mburo National Park

Situated in the Western part of Uganda a few kilometers to Mbarara Town, Lake Mburo National Park offers incredible wildlife safaris to all kinds of travelers around the world. It is located in Kiruhura District about 240 kilometers (150 mi) by road West of Kampala.

Things To Do in Lake Mburo National Park Uganda

Game Drives

This is the most prominent safari activity and requires you to transfer along the various trails in the park watching the numerous wildlife animals interacting in their natural environment. With a skilled ranger guide, you will transfer in the park and you will spot wildlife animals like zebra, giraffes, warthogs, buffalo, Hippos, small antelopes and these begin at 6:30 am to 7:00 pm taking a period of 2-3 hours. Launch Trips

These are also very ideal for travelers who want to experience Uganda’s unique touch of Nature. There are two shifts of the boat cruise which occurs along Lake Mburo and these include; the one that takes place in the morning at 6:30 am and the one in the afternoon that begins at 2:30 pm.

These offer amazing adventure experiences to all. However, there is also the late evening cruise for those interested in watching the African sunset set along the shores of the Lake. It is organized on prior request. The cruise offers remarkable views at the vegetation around the Lake, brilliant bird species, Hippos and crocodiles.

Birding

Lake Mburo National Park offers beautiful birding experiences to all and these can be watched in the swampy valleys and podiums close to the salt licks as well as the Rubanga forest.

The bird species watched her include; the Rufous-bellied Heron, Bateleur, Coqui Francolin, Grey Crowned Crane, Black-bellied Bustard and Brown-chested Lapwing, Emerald-spotted Wood-Dove, Brown Parrot, Red-headed Lovebird, Ross’s Turaco, Bare-faced Go-away-bird, Green Wood-hoopoe, Common Scimitarbill, White-headed Barbet, Red-faced Barbet, Nubian Woodpecker, Red-shouldered Cuckoo-shrike, Long-tailed Cisticola, Yellow-breasted Apalis, White-winged Tit and Finfoot, rare Red-faced Barbet.

Hiking and Nature Walks

The park also offers hiking and nature walk encounters requiring you to transfer with a skilled ranger to locations like the salt lick at Rwonyo due to the fact many wildlife animals are attracted to the salty rocks, Shores of the Lake, Hilltop and Rubanga Forest.

The western edge of the Lake offers remarkable Hiking experiences and those going on this will be given 2 hours starting at 7:00 am because at this hour, hyenas are returning back to their dens and hippos to the Lake. The walk to the top of the hill rewards travelers with scenic views at 9 of the 14 lakes in the region.

Sports Fishing

Sports’ Fishing at Lake Mburo National park takes place at Mazinga and is an incredible safari activity to experience by all interested travelers around the world. If you are interested in taking on this, you are advised to carry your own fishing equipment or hire and a valid sports fishing permit from the Uganda Wildlife Authority. The lake comprises of about 6 fish species with the Tilapia being the most prominent fish caught annually.
