This 1-day Mgahinga gorilla experience will take you through the hustle and bustle of the city of Kigali across the border of this land of a thousand hills to one of the 3 homes to the endangered mountain gorillas in the Virunga Conservation Area. Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park located in southwestern Uganda is the smallest national park in Uganda renowned for being inhabited by the Nyakagezi gorilla family.
Unlike when visiting the impenetrable forests of Bwindi, Mgahinga gorilla hikes are relatively easier though they are both at the same price of 800USD for foreign non-residents, 700USD for foreign residents, and 300,000ugx for East African citizens. Other than the mountain gorillas, Mgahinga National Park is known for being home to the golden monkeys in Uganda and the only golden monkey habituation destination known so far.
Other activities that you can take part in while visiting Mgahinga National Park include Mt. Sabinyo hike, Mt. Muhavura hike, among others.

Detailed Itinerary
A designated company driver guide will pick you up from Kigali either from Kigali International Airport or at your hotel with a packed breakfast at 4:00am and you will begin your journey across the border from Rwanda into Uganda’s Mgahinga National Park, where silver meets gold.
You will arrive at the park headquarters just in time for the briefing. Therefore, on arrival you will settle down with the other members of your group for a briefing on the dos and don’ts of gorilla trekking. Before the actual briefing begins, you will watch a short traditional dance performance from the locals then the briefing will commence.
Since Mgahinga National Park has only the Nyakagezi gorilla family, after the briefing, every member of this group of 8 individuals will find their way to the starting point of the trek. You will then penetrate the forest in search of this gorilla family. This search will take you between 3 to 5 hours and once you find the gorilla family, you will be allowed 1 hour with them after which you will return to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and begin your return journey to Kigali. Once in Kigali, the driver guide will drop you off either in Kigali at your hotel or Kigali International Airport where you can catch your flight to the next destination.
