This one day once-in- a life time adventure will begin from Bunyonyi in Uganda and take you through the beauty of the Pearl of Africa across the Katuna border into Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park unveiling to you the stunning landscape of Rwanda identified with majestic mountains and lush rainforests.
Deep in the heart of Volcanoes National Park, you will come face-to-face with the world’s most endangered yet gentle species, the mountain gorillas. These mountain gorillas are endemic to Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda, Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of Congo as well as Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in Uganda.
Mountain gorillas are the most sought-after primates in Volcanoes National Park and are the major tourist attraction in the Virunga Conservation Area. Other than the mountain gorillas, you will come across a number of bird species and the second most-sought after primates in this area, the golden monkeys which are endemic to the Virunga Conservation Area.

Detailed Itinerary
A designated English speaking driver guide will pick you up from your lodge at 4:00 am and with a packed breakfast you will embark on a drive across the border into Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. Unfortunately, it being the wee hours of the night, you will miss out on the magnificent views of the lush vegetation and crowning hills en route.
Not to worry though, the gorilla experience in Volcanoes National Park that day will make up for it all. This drive will take you between 2 to 3 hours and you will be at the park headquarters in Kinigi just in time for the briefing. Upon arrival at the park headquarters you will be welcomed with a hot cup of locally manufactured Rwandan coffee which will be followed by the briefing.
During the briefing, a knowledgeable and experienced ranger guide will give you the guide lines for a perfect gorilla experience and rules that will assist keep both you and the gorillas safe. In case of any health challenges or special requests, let them known to your driver guide before settling in for the briefing.
This briefing will take about 30 minutes and then you will be grouped into 8, and each group assigned a gorilla family to visit. Your driver guide will then pick you up and take you to the starting point of the trek. At this point feel free to hire a porter to assist with your luggage if you need one.
From this point, in your group of 8, and in the company of ranger guides, a scout and porters, you will penetrate the forest in search of the gorilla family assigned to you. This will take between 4 to 6 hours and once you find it, you are allowed one hour with them before returning to the starting point where you will meet your driver guide and embark on yet another journey to your next destination.
