SAFARI OVERVIEW
This trip takes you to Mgahinga National Park which covers 3 of the Virunga Volcanoes in the southwestern part of Uganda. With a size of 33.7sq Km, Mgahinga National Park features Mount Muhavura (4,127), Mount Gahinga (3,474), as well as Mount Sabinyo (3,645). The park takes its Name from “Gahinga” and its famously known for the mountain Gorillas as well as the Golden monkeys. You will have the opportunity to trek Gorillas in the Nyakagezi Group.
Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga National Park gives you a unique gorilla viewing experience, as you trek in the Virunga Hills with mainly bamboo vegetation, with greater opportunities to clear photography. While on this trip, you will also hike Mount Sabinyo, which offers Scenic viewing, Unique Vegetation, with a possibility of spotting some wildlife and the panoramic views of the Virunga Mountains.

Detailed Program
Day 1: Kigali Sightseeing & Transfer to Mgahinga
Start your trip with a sightseeing Tour in Kigali. The tour and destination expert will pick you up to go for a sightseeing Tour, featuring Kigali Genocide memorial Centre, to learn more about the 1994 Genocide, a Visit to Inema Art Center, to discover Rwanda’s arts, the Kimironko Market, as well as some other Historical and Modern sites before embarking on a Drive to Musanze where you will do a Boat trip on the Twin Lakes before crossing the border to connect to Mgahinga National Park. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park
You will have breakfast, then head to the Headquarters of Mgahinga National Park. Briefing will be done on the rules and guidelines to follow while trekking the Gorillas. You will then start the trek with experienced guides and trackers and when you find the Gorillas, you will be allowed an hour to observe and take photos. The Rangers will escort you back to meet your Guide for your next program. You may wish to have the rest of the day at leisure after your trekking activity or take a short community cultural Tour. Dinner and overnight at your Lodge.

Day 3: Sabinyo Volcano Hike & back to Kigali
In the morning, you will go for briefing at the park Headquarters, then setoff for the hike. The Hike requires some good physical fitness and hiking gear. You will walk through bamboo forest as you look out for some wildlife in the forest. The winding trails surrounded by trees gets you closer to the first peak, where you will encounter the stairways in the Mist. You will continue to summit the second peak at 3,537 M and the tri-boader peak shared by Uganda, Rwanda and DR Congo. After this activity, you will drive back to Kigali which marks the end of your safari.
