An affordable day trip to Zziwa rhino sanctuary from Kampala or Entebbe
A 1-day trip to Zziwa rhino sanctuary will bring you close to the one of the members of the big five of Africa in rhinos. The sanctuary is the home to both the black and white rhinos which are rare species and marked endangered. Zziwa rhino sanctuary is the only place in Uganda where you will be able to encounter the rhinos. Other place in Africa where you can see rhinos are Ngorongoro conservation area and Moru Kopjes area of Serengeti national park of Tanzania. You can also see rhinos in ol pajeta conservancy and Masai mara national reserve of Kenya on your African safari adventure.
Here is your one-day program that will bring you close to rhinos in their natural habitats while in Uganda.
Morning
- Start the day with a breakfast: wakeup very early in morning and have your breakfast. For proper arrangement it is advisable to leave Kampala very early in the morning by at least 6 AM. This will give you ample time to enjoy the experience.
- Travel to Zziwa rhino sanctuary: the drive from Kampala to Nakasongora where Zziwa rhino is located is about 4 hours. You can hire a private car with the guide or join a group tour to visit the sanctuary.
- Picnic Lunch: as you embark on your journey ensure to pack your lunch and go with it on your adventure.
Mid-morning
- Arrive at Zziwa rhino sanctuary. On your arrival at Zziwa rhino sanctuary, head to the park headquarter for the briefing and proceed to make a payment for the rhino tracking experience. You will also be taken through the dos and don’ts of rhino tracking.
- Guided rhino trek. After the briefing, you will be joined by the group of other trekkers and your head guide will lead you to the jungle to start a search for these gentle giants of Africa in their natural habitats. The trek will last between 1 to 2 hours and it a little physically demanding.
Lunch break
- After the trek, enjoy your lunch in the shade around the park headquarter while freshen up as you prepare for your evening experience.
Afternoon
- Visit Lugogo swamp. After a well-deserved resting proceed to Lugogo swamp located within the Zziwa rhino sanctuary for the birding experience. The swamp is the home to various bird species including the rare shoebill stock which you can encounter during this evening walk.
- Visit rhino information centre. Not leave Nakaseke without visiting the rhino information centre as this will offer you a chance to learn about these endangered gentle giants and surely that will give you a story to tell.
Late afternoon
- Depart to Kampala. now that we experienced every thing that brought us to Nakaseke, this is the time to drive back to Kampala where you will either be dropped off to your lodge or to Entebbe international airport to continue to your next destination and that will be the end of your full day rhino tracking experience at Zziwa rhino sanctuary from Entebbe or Kampala
