This one day gorilla expedition will take you across borders from Rwanda, the land of a thousand hills into Uganda, the pearl of Africa. It is a once-in-a life time experience that will leave you thrilled and fascinated. It will begin with a drive through the busy streets of Kigali across the border to the thick and misty Impenetrable forests of Bwindi in southwestern Uganda.

Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is a UNESCO’s World Heritage Site best known for being home to almost half the total population of the world’s endangered mountain gorillas. Except the mountain gorillas, other primates such as black and white colobus monkeys, butterflies, and bird species also call this place home therefore expect to come across a number of them.

Itinerary overview

Pick up from Kigali, transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, gorilla trekking then drop off in Kigali.

Detailed Itinerary

An English speaking driver guide will pick you up from Kigali International Airport or hotel with a packed breakfast then you will embark on a journey through the clean and properly lit streets of Kigali across the border to Uganda’s Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. On arrival at the park headquarters, you will settle down for briefing which will begin after a short traditional music dancing and singing entertainment from the locals.

This briefing will be done by an experienced ranger guide who will take you through the code of conduct and what to expect when visiting the mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. After briefing, you will be grouped into groups of 8 individuals and each group assigned a gorilla family to visit.

Then in your group of 8, in the company of experienced ranger guides, porters assisting with your luggage, and a scout creating a path through the bushes using a machete, you will penetrate the forest in search of the gorilla family assigned to you. Whilst you make your way through the bushes and hear the sounds of nature from the birds in the sky and the monkeys swinging in the tree branches, anticipation will built up as you look forward to the first sight of these magnificent great apes of Africa. This hike will take you about 1 to 6 hours and once you spot the gorilla family, you will be allowed 1 hour of watching them go about their activities.

After this experience, you will return to the starting point where you will meet you driver guide and proceed for lunch. After lunch, you will embark on yet another journey through the crowning hills and lush vegetation of southwestern Uganda back to Kigali. Here the driver guide will drop you off either at your hotel or at the airport where you will catch your flight to the next destination.
