Materuni is a Chagga ethnic community that has maintained its authenticity. This lovely community is only 15 kilometers from Moshi Town and is the last village before the Kilimanjaro National Park. Once you arrive, register at the village office and commence on your excursion.
You will start by going to the waterfalls, which are about a 40 -minute walk away. On the route, your guide will describe the Chagga culture and village life, as well as the surrounding fauna and vegetation. The vistas are extremely stunning, and with luck, you will glimpse Kilimanjaro’s summit. When you reach the waterfalls, you will notice that they are over 80 meters high. Don’t forget your swimsuit; the pool at the bottom of the waterfall is a fantastic spot for a soothing splash!
After taking in the beauty of the country side, you gently return to Materuni village with your guide, here you will eat a traditional Chagga meal as well as taste a local banana beer, which is not shouldn’t be underestimated!
After hiking and exploring the Materuni falls, prepare and do a coffee tour that leaves you with vast knowledge about it.
Awaiting you next is the coffee experience. Here you will discover how coffee is grown, dried, roasted, and processed. In addition, you will be asked to assist with the coffee grinding, which is customarily done to the tunes of Chagga songs and dances. This is a great opportunity to experience the local way of life.
Before saying farewell return to Moshi in the afternoon, you can savor the coffee you made while taking in the views of the surrounding rainforest.
