While a Safari to Serengeti National Park is a dream come true for most travelers visiting Africa, being that this park is one of Tanzania’s most popular parks due to its abundant wildlife, stunning savannah landscapes, iconic acacia trees and being home to the annual Great wildebeest migration, this safari comes at a cost whose sum is brought about by a number of factors ranging from the choice of accommodation, length of the trip, number of days in the national park, among others.
These choices of accommodation range from camping, tented lodges, budget lodges, mid-range lodges, and luxury lodges. As compared to other choices of accommodation, a camping safari to Serengeti National Park is relatively cheaper with a total cost ranging between 500USD to 3000USD. This cost is attributed to a number of factors such as follows.
Each night of camping in Serengeti National Park comes at a cost that depends on the type of the campsite, age of the camper, and whether the camper is a foreign resident or foreign non-resident.
Number of days in the national park
Serengeti National Park charges a conservation fee that includes a park entrance paid for every 24 hours spent in the park and a concession fee also paid after 24 hours by tourists that opt to stay in camps, lodges or hotels within the national park. Serengeti National Park entrance is at 70USD per person for adult foreign non-residents, 20USD per person for their children between the age of 5 to 15 years, and TSH 10000 per person per day of access for East African residents during the peak season. And during the low season, a fee of 60USD is charged for foreign non-residents. The concession fee costs 60USD per adult in the peak season, 50USD per adult in the low season, 10USD per child and TSHS 30000 and TSHS 10000 for adult residents and their children respectively.
Type of Campsite
For public campsites, a fee of 30USD is charged per night for both adult foreign non-residents, and adult foreign residents and 5USD per night for their children whereas adult residents pay a fee of TSHS 5000 and TSHS 250 for their children.
Special campsites charge a fee of 60USD per night for adult foreign non-residents, and foreign residents and 5USD per night for their children while adult residents pay a fee of TSHS 10,000 and TSHS 5000 for the children.
For seasonal campsites, a fee of 60USD is charged per night per adult for foreign non-residents, and foreign residents, and 10USD for their children. Tanzanian residents pay a fee of TSHS 15000 per night for every adult and TSH 7500 per night for their children.
Therefore the choice of campsite will bring about a difference in the cost of your camping safari.

Choice of Additional Activities
Since the different activities in Serengeti National Park other than the game drive come at a cost and these vary in prices, the cost of your camping safari will depend on the activities one chooses to indulge in for example; A Hot air balloons safari will incur a cost that ranges between 559USD to 699USD per person depending on the facilitators, a Maasai village visit cost ranges between 30USD and 50USD per person, a horse riding safari costs TSHS 1500, annual research permits go for 400USD, among others. These choices of activities impact the total cost of the camping safari in Serengeti National Park.
Choice of dining
The cost of meals while on a camping safari in Serengeti National Park varies depending on the choice of the camper. One can opt for fine dining where they will be served sophisticated cuisines from all over the world or make their own bush meals and get to enjoy their dinner around the bush fire. This makes a difference in the overall cost of the camping safari.
Time of year of travel
The time of year a camper chooses to go on this camping safari to Serengeti National Park determines the total cost of that particular trip. This is because prices generally reduce during the low season right from the park entrance fees, concession fees, and cost of activities in the park and then increase during the peak seasons.
Other factors
Other personal factors that could impact the cost of this safari includes; the Travel visa, insurance, International flights, laundry services, tips, souvenirs, among others.
Even though the cost of a camping Safari to Serengeti National Park is attributed to a number of factors, the difference in the prices is brought about by an individual’s preferences and choices.
